The Shayla Shares Foundation, founded by Michael & Dina Dotsikas, is a not-for-profit charitable organization designed to support the literacy needs of disadvantaged and underserved communities across the world.
“We recognize and greatly cherish the irreplaceable experience of “storytime” at home and its importance in developing a child’s intellect, quality of character and strong familial bond. Sadly, as we tour schools across the country—reading our children’s books and conducting author presentations on writing and story creation—we were deeply dismayed to see that many of the amazing schoolchildren we meet do not own ANY books at home, and are thus missing out on the precious “storytime” experiences with their families and all the important literacy and personal benefits that reading offers. And then we read a disturbing statistic that seven out of ten families in low-income households do not own ANY books for their children—exactly what we were witnessing firsthand during our school visits.
We created the Shayla Shares Foundation to help bring awareness to this tragic situation and to band together with mindful and like-minded people and do something about it. We hope that through our unique gifting programs, we will help children “foster a love of reading” and make storytime moments with their loved ones very special and memorable.
Join us in this important movement to make a significant impact on children’s lives—ALL children’s lives—because EVERY child deserves the same fundamentals for success!”
